MAKEUP is the best, but it can also be super expensive.
Splashing $60 on a single lipstick has become the norm and it led me to ask. surely there must be another way?
You’ll often find beauty YouTubers talking about ‘drugstore dupes’ aka cheaper products that get the same results as the expensive designer brands.
Is this true?
I decided to find out how these drugstore dupes compared to their high-end counterparts.
L’OREAL NUDE MAGIQUE CUSHION: $25.29
Keeping up with makeup trends is more exhausting than keeping up with the Kardashians. But this cushion compact foundation is the item my makeup bag has been missing. For those who don’t know, a cushion compact is a foundation absorbed into a sponge. When you press the applicator onto the sponge the cream spreads out evenly with no spills, sticky fingers or separating liquid. The result is natural, build-able coverage with easy reapplication. I’ve always been a sucker for expensive foundations, but this L’Oreal product was better than any liquid I’ve ever used.
AUSTRALIS VELOURLIPS MATTE LIP CREAM: $9.46
This lip stick is AMAZING. Like, if you’re going to buy one thing off this list, make it a velourlips matte lip cream. I was among the thousands who jumped on board the Kylie Lip Kit bandwagon and ended up a little disappointed with the quality of the products (the cost of the lip kit PLUS shipping was insane). If only I had known about this $9.46 alternative.
AUSTRALIS AC ON TOUR KIT: $14.99
I’m the first person to admit that contouring ~kinda~ scares me. So if you’re in the same boat, I would definitely recommend the Australis AC on Tour Kit. It’s great for beginners as it’s easy to apply and the shades aren’t too dark (translate: if you mess up, it can still be salvaged). Plus $14.99 is a bargain compared to some of the palette’s on the market for up to $60.
NUDE BY NATURE TOUCH OF GLOW HIGHLIGHTER STICK: $19.99
This super-easy-to-apply highlighter is a total dupe for the Benefit Watt’s Up! Highlighter and it’s less than half the price. The Touch of Glow Highlighter from Nude by Nature comes in gorgeous gold packaging with 10g of product which is quite a decent amount considering the price and it leaves you looking natural and dewy.
L’OREAL FALSE LASH TELESCOPIC MASCARA: $22.89
If you’re looking for length, the L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara is for you. I loved this product because it didn’t clump at all, but you should apply two to three coats if you want added volume. For less than $23, it’s an absolute steal.
ARDELL LASHES: $9.99
Kylie Jenner swears by these lashes. And if it’s good enough for her, it’s certainly good enough for me. Growing up dancing, I went through my fair share of false lashes *Gold Coast Eisteddfod flashbacks* but this product is easy to apply, it stays in place for hours and can be worn on a night out or with your everyday makeup look.
MAYBELLINE MASTER PRECISE LIQUID LINER: $10.99
I used this product interchangeably with the Kat Von D Ink Liner Trooper ($28) for a week and noticed no difference between the two. Both will give you a precise wing so if you’re looking to save a few dollars, Maybelline is for you.
MAYBELLINE BLUSHED NUDE PALETTE: $21.89
This palette essentially does the same job as the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette ($83) but it’s a little less pigmented than its high-end alternative. Nevertheless, this product combines all the key nudes you need to create a subtle everyday look, or you can play with some of the darker shades for an evening makeup look.
REVLON JUST BITTEN KISSABLE BALM STAIN: $14.99
Sick of your boring clear lip balm? Me too. This Revlon balm ‘stain’ is so hydrating and feels great on your lips. Plus it has serious staying power. Unless you’re eating a super greasy meal, expect this gorgeous lip stain to last for hours.
