Each year, a team of talented, hardworking Aveda artists travels to New York Fashion Week to create the perfect looks to match each designer’s unique vision and voice. It’s a busy, crazy, inspiring environment. See what our artists have to say about their Fashion Week experience, from personal highlights to why models love seeing an Aveda team backstage.
Aveda Educator Fawn Monique loves the high energy that comes with working backstage at New York Fashion Week. But all that energy can feel overwhelming. That’s why Sue Thompson of Chrome Hair Design advises stylists who are new to NYFW to be as calm as possible, listen carefully, and be there for the lead stylist.
Preparation is extremely important, both in terms of gathering your hair styling tools and your skills. Austin Call, Aveda Stylist at Jax Salon & Spa, took the Runway Styling class with Aveda as training for NYFW. Similarly, Jon-Michael Hall of Aura Salon took the Advanced Styling and Runway Styling classes.
Fawn sums up working with the Aveda team at New York Fashion Week by saying “It’s all about wellness and beauty and combining that with fashion. The models know we’re going to take care of them and make them relaxed before they rock it on the runway.”
