After patiently waiting while Christchurch and Wellington beauty fiends shopped, Aucklanders will soon have their own Mecca Maxima store.
It’s likely to be a big deal – Wellington shoppers queued through the night for the opening of their store.
The Australian company already has Mecca Cosmetica stores in Ponsonby and Newmarket, but they are smaller than the planned Maxima store, and don’t stock the same brands.
Located at 191 Queen St, Auckland’s Mecca Maxima will be New Zealand’s biggest at 263 square metres. It will open at 9am on August 3.

Brand founder Jo Horgan said the store was part of a larger plan to increase the Mecca presence in the upper North Island.
“New Zealand, you have embraced us with open arms,” she said. “I am very much looking forward to opening more of our stores in this beautiful part of the world and delivering moreof our inimitable beauty experiences to you.”
Wellington’s Mecca Maxima opened on Lambton Quay in April, following Christchurch’s in November last year. All three stores stock brands like Urban Decay, Mario Bedescu and Too Faced that have previously been difficult to find in NZ.
Aucklanders are already able to get these goodies through the brand’s website, but buying makeup online can be tricky.
Prizes will be on offer for shoppers who spend more than $90 on opening day, the brand said.
